2011 National Pub Poker League New Zealand National Final

Auckland, Avondale RSA 26th November

Big ups to all our players who made it to the Nationals, a great day, spirits were high, great atmosphere, lots of fun and socializing, and most importantly a well played and fought out game. Our appreciation and thanks to all who made this day possible, Avondale RSA for their hospitality and allowing poker players to gear up in caps, shades, hoodies etc , Hosts for keeping the day on track, and of course players and spectators from across all regions.

Day started with a welcome speech by the President of Avondale RSA, followed by presentations to our most consistent players. 1st - 2nd on the National Leader board. These two guys fought it out all year round, Eddie Arnold taking out First and Fraser Deans not too far behind at Second. Unfortunately Eddie couldn't make it, but was well represented.

Trophy no. 1 to Christchurch.

Two or three hands into the game our 1st victim hit the rails, Hayden Jones Jackson, one of the boys from Bedrock and, like a true sportsman, took up the opportunity (and Mic) to retell his fate. Yep! a donkey story, poor guy got donked (I think!) We had to reward him for his 3 minute effort and great sportsmanship, so he happily accepted the "GOT DONKED" Trophy.

Trophy no. 2 to Christchurch

The day continued, cash games were played in one section while the main game continued, in all seriousness, as players were eliminated. A barrier was erected around the final two tables, but didn't stop the over eager spectator. It was great the cheering got louder the crowd got bigger and even the singing got better. Attempts to negotiate a deal were shut down, by the spectators, causing a player to go on tilt, but bounced back quickly.

Shannon Parsons, Akld, hit the rails in 3rd place leaving Matt Capill CHCH and Sara Lee Akld, to face one another at heads up. Capill with a massive advantage about 1.3 million leaving Sara no option but to push with a k8, Matt called with Ace rag, A Capill chant went up as Matts Ace held and away...

Trophy no. 3 to Christchurch.

Well done Christchurch, well done everyone!!

Note: If you are familiar with RSAs you'd know that they are quite strict in regards to attire, language, drinking regulations etc, our poker players were well behaved, just the odd caution on language, but overall great!! The few members and staff present enjoyed the day and are more than happy to have us back again!!
Thank You all!
